Thompson, John Grant

Halstead Independent

   John Grant Thompson passed away in the Halstad Hospital Saturday, June 22, 1951 after a short illness. He was a retired farmer and pioneer resident of the Halsted commujnity.  Death was the result of a heart attack suffered four days ago.  He was born April 27, 1876 at Halstead and spent his entire life here, with the exception of 10 years residence in Morton county.  He was past 75 years of age.

   He married Maude Raker on March 11, 1902 who survives.  They would have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary next year.  He was a member of the Methodist Church and was active in the church and numerous community organizations.

   Survivors: wife, of the home; son, Howard and daughter, Mrs. Mildred Hall, both of Halstead and daughter Mrs. Clyde L. Cook of Albuquerque, New Mexico.  Also one sister, Mrs. Alice Booker of Lyons and grandchildren, John E.; Jimmy; Gladys; Glen; Charles; Johnny; Duane; and Normann and 9 great grandchildren.

   Burial was in the Halsted Cemetery.
