Schmidt, Richard



Mr. Richard “Dick” R. Schmidt, 63, of Marietta, GA, passed away November 28, 2012.

 

He was born to the late Menno and Lucille Schmidt on June 22, 1949, in Newton, KS. After his graduation from Newton High School, Dick attended the University of Kansas. He then served honorably in the United States Air Force.During his tour of Thailand during the Vietnam War, Dick was a radio and TV announcer from 1970-1971. After he came back to the US, he was a recruiter in Florida. In between Thailand and his new job as a recruiter, Dick met his wife Patricia Niemi.After he left the Air Force, he continued a career in broadcasting, selling broadcasting systems for many companies. Dick was a world traveler, a loyal friend, had a wonderful sense of humor, but most importantly was a devoted father.As a salesman, he was constantly on the road traveling, but always made sure to be there for his children, never missing a sporting event they were a part of.

 

Dick was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dennis Schmidt.He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Pat Schmidt; daughter, Karen Schmidt; son, Kevin Schmidt; brother, James Schmidt (Connie); and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

A celebration of Dick’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at 11:00 am in the chapel of H.M. Patterson & Son Canton Hill. Interment, with military honors, will follow at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA.
