Isabella Gray was born in Coventry, Grafton County, New Hampshire on Decermber 15, 1824. She was married to Granvill Flanders on June 15, 1839. To them were born five children, Eunice, Moses, Susan, Ellis and Rutis (?). Two sons, Moses of Manchester, N.H. and Ellis, of Sedgwick survive her. She moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1861 where sge was married to Rev Mr. Vial, who died a few years later. She moved to Sedgwick in 1880 and was married to H. A. Hartman in 1892 and lived here until the time of her death, which occured on June 12, 1912 at 8 p.m. Her age was 87 years, 6 months and 28 days. It is not known exactly when she was converted but wqs a Christian since the earliest memory of her children, holding membership in the Baptist Church. She leaves to mourn her loss, two sons, seven
grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
During a residence of over thirty years in the community, Mother Hartmann endeared herself in the hearts all who knew her by here kindly ways and cheerful disposition. She was a gentlewoman in all that the name implies and lived a life of usefulness to a ripe old age before passing to her reward.
