Fry, Demaris

Sedgwick Pantagraph

Demaris Allen Fry was born near Clayton,  New York on February 15, 1834.  Her early girlhood days were sent in Canada and Northern New York.

On July 4, 1834 she was married to  Charles Fry at Depanville, New York.  To thi union seven children were born, two of whom died in infancy.  Mrs. Lucy Doty of Sedgwick, Mrs. Deborah Zimmerman of Wesson, Arkansas, Mrs. Adda Morgan of Parsons and Herman Fry of Sedgwick, together with her husband, twelve grandchildren still survive her.

Mr. & Mrs. Fry moved from New York to Kansas in the early pioneer days of 1875 and together they endured all the privations and hardships of frontier life.  The first summer being saddened by the death of their oldest son, Willie, then a boy of thirteen years old.

Mrs. Fry joined the M.E. churchh at sixteen years of age and remained a  faithful member until her death.  Those who knew her best will long rememmber her loving counsel and her beautiful  Christian life.  She was a good mother and a faithful wife.

About ten years ago, Mr. & Mrs. Fry moved from the farm two miles south of Sedgwick to their home here.  During the greater part of this time, Mrs. Fry has been confined to her home by ill health, getting out only rarely to see her old friends and neighbors.  She bore this cross with a sweet resignation though she often spoke of her wish to go to church whenever she heard the church bell ring.

About three weeks ago, she received a paralytic stroke from which she grew steadily weaker.  She passed from this life October 24, 1912 just as the church bells were ringing for prayer meeting.  It seemed to those who mourned as if God had called her to His great service above.

Her age was 78 years 8 months and 9 days.  She was laid to rest in Hillsiidie  Cemetery.
