Hartman McMurry was born in West Moreland County, Pennsylvania January 19, 1861. He moved to Illinois when still a boy and where he grew to manhood. He came to Kansas in 1870 where for a number of years he engaged in work at his trade in Hutchinson. He also farmed north of Mt. Hope. In 1880 he was married to Miss Harriat Snyder. To this union were born 5 children: Morris, Arthur, Francis, Myrtle and Ernest. All of these children with their mother mourn the loss sustained by his departure. Mr. McMurry died at his home northwest of Mr. Hope on September 7, 1912.
In the presence of a large concourse of friends, Rev. T. Richardson Gray led religous service at the McMurry home.
The Masonic Lodge of Mr. Hope, which was present in a body, to which deceased had belonged, then took charge and the remains were laid to rest with full Masonic honors. The community at large mourns the passing of a good man.
He was an old settler in this community. Survivors: wife, three ssons and two daughters who will have the scympathy of the entire community in their bereavement.
