Lupe T. Llamas, 91, died March 7, 2013 at Abury Park in Newton. She was born May 19, 1921 at Peabody, daughter of Jesus and Manuela Melendez Torres. Lupe married Petronilo Jose Llamas on May 29, 1942 in Florence. They moved to Newton shortly after. Mr. Llamas died October 15, 1993.
Through the years, Lupe worked at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita and Hehr Internationnal. She later opened Lupe's Carry-Out in Newton in 1977, which she operated until retiring in 1992. Her family continues to operate the restaurant.
She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and the Alter Society.
Survivors: children; Elvera Hernandez and Russell, Newton; Gloria Hernandez and Domonic, Wichita; Caroline Hansen, Newton; Mario R. Llamas and Anita, Newton; Neil A. Llamas and Julia, Newton; brothers, Angel Torres, Peabody; Robert Torres, Albuquerque, N.M.; sisters, Carmen Vega, Esther Monares, Margaret Garcia and Jenny Garcia, all of Newton; 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Felix Torres; and stepbrother, Augustine Torres.
Rosary will be March 11 followed by Mass of Christian Burial, both at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
