Warkentin, Robert H. "Bob"

The Newton Kansan

  Robert H. "Bob" Warkentin, 70, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, Feb. 24. 2013 at Harry  Hynes Hospice in Wichita.  He was born August 11, 1942 in Wichita to Harold R. and Eva Jamison Warkentin.  He was raised in Beatrice Nebraska.

   Bob, along with his wife,  Shirley, worked making a difference in many childrenn's lives through their working years.  They worked at a children's home in Ft. Worth, Texas and many years at Youthnille iin Newton, where they touched many young girl's lives.  He enjoyed gardening and tending flowers and also relaxed and enjoyed caring for his backyard fish pond.  He made many woodcarvings and yard signs that he enjoyed sharing.

   Survivors: wife, Shirley (Smith) (Gillock) Warkentin of the home; son, Robert and Brooke Warkentin of Greeley, Colo; daughter, Sarah and Maurice Montano; 3 stepchildren, Bob and Mary Potter, Wichita; Dan and Tina Potter, Locust Grove, Ok; P.J. and Gary Hargus, Wichita; 2 adopted children; Jessica and Steve Young, Newton and James Warkentin of Newton; brothers; Duane and Kathy Warkentin, Miltonvale; Ron Warkentin of Seattle, Wash; Dick and Vicky of Greeley, Colo and Larry and wife Susan, Greeley,  Colorado; 15 grandchildred and 12 great grandchildren.

   Services were held March 1, 2013 at Grace Community Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
