Lt. Knox L. Rhine, 65, died Sunday, April 14, 2013 at the University of Nebraska
Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, following a rare complication from a liver transplant
he received on April 2. He was born May 8, 1947 in Denver, Colorado to Robert L. and Mary P. Sullivan Rhine. They both survive. On December 29, 1990 he married Bette Franz Ratzlaf in Newton.
Knox was a retired United States Coast Guard officer, serving 20 years in the UlS. Coast Guard. He served as an avionics technician and was also a helicopter search and rescue crewman. He worked water rescues in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, as well as the Great Lakes. He earned an Air Medal Award for rescuing 6 people from a sinking ship.
He was welll known as a country/western line dance competitor, judge, choreographer and instructor and taught at
workshops throughout the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Both he and his wife enjoyed dancing, traveling and spending time with their family.

Newton; sister, Gale (Jon) Stevens of Belleview, Nebraska; brother, Bobby (Margo) of
Fountain, Colorado; son, Ron Weiss of Oroville, California; daughter, Dawne Rosemond of
Chico, California; stepsons, David (Cami) Ratzlaff of Milwaukee, Oregon and Eric and (Kori) Ratzlaff of Lenexea; 8 grandchildren; one great grandchild.
Graveside committal services will be Friday May 3, 2013 at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton..
