Janzen, Henry

The Newton Kansan

   Henry H. Janzen, 92, died May 14, 2013 at Kidron Bethel Care Center in North Newton.  He was born on April 26, 1921 to Rudolph and Matilda Schmidt Janzenn in Rosthern, Saskatchewan.  The family moved to a farm in the Whitewater area.  Henry graduated from Whitewater High school.  He married Laura Balzer on July 2, 1944 in rural Whitewater.  They were married for almost 68 years prior to Laura's death in 2012.

   Henry was a stockman, farmer and retired employee of Hesston Corporation.  He served on the boards of the Harvey County Sheep Assoc and McLain Grain and was a member of the Grace Hill Mennonite Church.

   He was a man of great ingeunity, had a strong work ethic and loved to tell jokes and kept others laughing with his quick wit.

   Survivors: two daughters, Sandra (Donald) Lanzrath of Newton and Susan (Marshall) Shelley of Wheaton, Ill; sister, Clara Koehn of Newton; 6 grndchildren. and 3 great grandchildren.

   He was preceded iin death by his parents, wife, grandson, Toby Shelley; granddaughter, Mandy Shelley; brother, Bob Janzen and sisters, Edna Lawson and Ruth Zook.

   Services were Tuesday, May 14 at Grace Hill Mennonite Church in rural Whitewater.  Graveside committal will be prior to the service.
