Brunner, Helen E. Allison

The Newton Kansan

   Helen E. Brunner was born June 7, 1913 in Florence, Kansas to Walter and Inez Manchester Allison.  She was a long-term resident of Newton, moving here in  1932.  She was a former Southwestern Bell telephone operator and homemaker.  She was a member of  Salem United Methodist Church in Newton.

   She married Hartley G. Brunner, of Newton, on February 14, 1934 in Emporia, Kansas.  They were married for 75 years until his death in 1999.

   Survivors: daughter, Janice Thomas Schulz and husband Bob of Salina, Kansas; granddaughters, Beth Thommas, Anchorage, Alaska and Penny Vermeul of Richland, Washington; 3 great grandchidren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Hartley G. Brunner; parents; four sisters and one brother.

   Funeral services will be Saturday, June 8 at Petersen Funeral Home of Newton.  A committal will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

   A special 100th birthday celebration was scheduled for the weekend of June 8.  She looked forward to this celebration and a chance to see her family again.  She passed six days prior to her birthday.
