Corona, Gavino

The Newton Kansan

   Gavino "Gabby" Corona, 89, of Newton, died Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Newton Medical Center.  He was born January 13, 1924 in Waukegan, Illinois.  The family moved to Newton when Gabby was a teenager.  He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

   Gavino married Margaret Estrada on October 12, 1946 in Newton.  He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for many years, retiring in 1984.

   Survivors: wife, Margaret of the home; son, Joe Corona and wife Penny Ross-Corona, St. Louis, Missouri; son-in-law, John Burns, Newton; brothers, Lupe and Joe, both of Newton and Frank of Phoenix, Arizona; 7 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son,  Antonio, daughter, Bentura "Penny" Burns, infant brother, Jose; sisters, Romona Corona; Georgia Arrellano Porras and Esther Davilla; and great grandson, Ian Christopher Burns.

   Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be June 17.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be June 18.  Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Newton.
