Obituary

   Jacob C. Schmitt's funeral was held last Sunday.  Four years ago he spent several months iin Germany taking treatment for Kidney trouble and it was the intention to return there soon.

   He was born in Bavaria in 1846 and came to America with his parents in 1857, then went  to Summerfield, Illinois in 1859.  He married Elizabeth Baer in 1876.  He purchased land south of Halstead with the great exodus of Mennonites in 1874.

   Survivors: bereaved widow; two brothers; son; three daughters, including Mrs. Susie Haury and Miss Kate of Halstead.

   Funeral sermons were given in English and in German.  The Funeral procession to the Halstead Cemetery was one of the largest seen in recent years.
