Joseph Wear, born in New Jersey in 1845, learned the trade of a railroad blacksmith in Indiana for the Lake Shore Company He married Freiea Kahler and came to Lakin township in 1877. The couple had 8 children.
Mrs. Wear and three children lost their lives in the cyclone at Halstead May 7, 1895.
