Alfred Hemmant died at the home of his daughter in Arkansas in October 1912. He was born in Ohio in 1 842. He served as Lieutenant Co. E. 17th Illinois Volunteer Cavalry. He married Mary Kavanagh. They had 8 children. They came to Kansas in 1880. He was the rural mail carrier in Halstead for 25 years.
