Olivan Raya, 73, died Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at the Presbyterian Manor. She was born July 24, 1940 in Newton, the daughter of Locadio and Maria Reyes Monares. "Ollie" graduated from Newton High School in 1958. Shortly after graduating she moved to Hutchinson, where she graduated from the Salt City Business College. While in Hutchinson, she was active at St. Teresa's Catholic Church. She moved to the Kansas Christian Home in Newton in 2006 and was active at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Churtch.
Survivors: sons, Albert Adrian Raya,, Great Bennd; Everett Todd Raya, Mesa, Arizona; David Martin Raya of Gardner and Luke Marcus Raya of Hutchinson; brothers, Emilio Monarez; Willie Monares of Newton; Jim Monarez of Wichita; Louis Monarez of Thornton, Colorado; sisters, Catherine Vela of Thornton, Colorado; Sally Juarez of Denver, Colorado; Mona Koehn of Omaha, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Carlos Monarez; Angel Monares and Faustino Monarez.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Monday, October 14 followed by the Mass of Christian Burial. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
