Arnold Guhr
Arnold Guhr, 83, joined God's heavenly choir Monday (July 30, 2007) at Newton Presbyterian Manor.
Guhr was born in rural Walton and was the sixth child of Birkholtz and Eva (Goertz) Guhr.
He married Malinda Eck Dec. 27, 1949, in Newton. They were married 57 years. She survives of the home.
Guhr retired in 2004 after being primarily employed by Guerdon Industries, Bethel Hospital and Dillons. He enjoyed singing, especially with Guhr Brothers' Quartet, the Senior Men's Quartet and choir at his church. He also enjoyed talking to people of all ages.
Other survivors include three daughters, Marilyn Loof and husband Tom of Chandler, Ariz., Janet Guhr of Newton and Arlene Gordon and husband Gene of Valley Center; four grandchildren, Alison, Melissa, Julianne and Max; brothers, Adolf, Otto and Milton Guhr; and sisters Rose Flaming and Edna Stucky.
He was prededed in death by his parents; brothers John, Sam and Dan; sister Lydia; six nephews; and one niece.
Visitation will be from 9 a. m. to 9 p. m. Thursday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p. m. at the funeral home.
A public memorial service will be 11 a. m. Friday at Koerner Heights Church of Mennonite Brethren with Pastor Loyal Martin officiating.
There will be a private family burial.
Memorials may be made to the Mennonite Brethren Church Mission or Harry Hynes Hospice in care of the funeral home in Newton.
