Ardith Leroy Sauerwein, 85, died at Peabody Care Center on Thursday, November 28, 2013. He was born February 14, 1928 in Newton to Charles and Nellie Hawkey Sauerwein. On December 28, 1949 he married Maida Elaine Allen and she preceded him in death in 2005.
He was active in the community through 4-H Harvey County Fair Associatiioon; Rural life Association; USD 373 School Board; Walton State Bank board; Sand Creek Watershed board and a 33 degree Mason with Newtoon Masonic Lodge # 142. A lifetime farmer and dairyman, Ardith was a national corporate board member of American Milk Producers Inc.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 8 sisters, Gladys Miller; Ruth Guthrie; Marjorie Guthrie; Marion Winsor; Lucile Dey Putnam; Charlene Hamm; Rose Elaiine Stehman and Wilda Yarnell; two brothers, Wilbur and Robert Sauerwein; and a grandson, Scott Sauerwein.
Suyrvivors: sister, Virginia Bullard of Newton; five children, Caroll (Kenneth) Trout, of Scott City; Richard (Mary) Sauerwein of Groton, Conn; Jean (Ray) Schmidt of Topeka; Anita (Greg) Davis and John (Carol) Sauerwein of Newton; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren.
Memorial Services were held December 2013 at H ighland Trinity United Church of Christ with nephew Don Sauerwein presiding. Burial of cremaiins will be in Highland Cemetery.
