Myrtle L. Malek, 78, died Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Newton Medical Center. She was born May 25, 1935 in P oplar Bluuff, Missouri, to R. E. and Margaret Anderson Emerson. Myrtle was a loving and giving person and she greatly enjoyed cariing for many friends and family throough the years in both good times and bad. She enjoyed spending time camping and traveling.
She will be missed by her loving family and many friends. Survivors: longtime companion, Cecil Blackwell of Newton; daughters, Tammy Phards and Kimberly Moser, both of Newton; and Debbie Peal of Hesston; son, Gary of Barnthouse of Wellington, Ohio; former husband, Jack Malek; 20 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents;four brothers, Leroy, Jerry, Richard and Paul Emerson; two sisters, Ruby Murphy and Lavonda Sue Banda. She was also preceded in death by a son, Larry Barnthouse.
A gathering of celebration and memories of Myrtle will be December 2, 2013 at Petersen Funeral Home. The family will greet friends duriing this time. A private family interment will be at a later date.
