Edna Myrtle Sawatzky
LAWTON, Okla. -- Edna Myrtle Sawatzky, 86, homemaker, died Monday (April 6, 1998) at a Lawton nursing home.
She was born Oct. 1, 1911, in Durham to Henry C. Funk and Renetta Schultz Funk. She married Henry J. Sawatzky Oct. 3, 1938, in Newton. He preceded her in death Feb. 3, 1997.
She was a 1929 graduate of Durham High School. She and her husband lived in Marion and Salina, and in 1948, they moved to Wichita. She was a member and past president of the Wichita Typographical Auxiliary and also a member of the Lorraine Avenue Mennonite Church, both for more than 50 years. They moved to Newton in 1990, to the Kidron Bethel Community and then in 1994, moved to Lawton to be near family. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, gardening and cooking.
Survivors include one daughter, Gaila Martin of Lawton, Okla.; and two grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Lorraine Avenue Mennonite Church in Wichita with the Rev. Donald Steelberg officiating. Burial will be in Wichita Park Cemetery under the direction of Hillside Funeral Home East in Wichita.
