Roberta Walton Walker, 56, of Wichita, passed away at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice on December 18, 2013 after a lengthy battle with Cancer. She was born November 30, 1957 in Newton to Milton and Mary E.(Lyle) Walton. After graduating from Newton High School, she lived in Newton until decidiig to further her education. Although she was married and working full-time jobs with the two children,, she managed to achieve her goals.
She lived in Lawrence for a short time, after which she moved to Garden City, where she attended Garden City Community College. She also worked at several nursing homes as a certified medication aide. Eventually she moved to Wichita. She attended WSU where she received a bachelot's degree as a sociology major at the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She was working on a master's degree when she became ill.
After receiving her degree, she worked as a drug and alcohol counselor and taught classes at WSU. During her career as a counselor, Roberta made many lasting friendships with clients as well as co-workers. We wish to thank her former boss and friend, Bill Morris, for his help and support.
Roberta was mother to Michael (Shanita) and Teresa Walton, both of Wichita; grandmother of Tiara Walton; and great grandmother of two. She had eight siblings, Linda E. Walton Smith of Newton; Alice M. Walton of Wichita; Lorese A. Walton of Newton; Chari L. (Kevin) Hayes of Hesston and half-brother, Bruce Willoughby.
Preceding her death were parents, grandparents; sister, Doris Caw; and brothers, Robert and Raymond Lyle.
We hope to honor that spirit at a memorial service Saturday January 4 at Hall;s Chapel A.M.E. Church, 719 E. 11th Newton, Kansas
