Rogers, Norman

The Newton Kansan

   Norman Rogers, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2013.  He was born March 29, 1937 in Niotaze, Kansas..  He graduated from Scott City High School.  After serving in the Army for two years, he met and married Rose Quiring on April 21, 1962.  She preceded him in death on April 22, 1992.  He worked in data proocesing for Santa Fe Trailways and the Boeing Company in Wichita.  On June 12, 19193, he married Marcella Jantz of Newton.

   His life was characterized by faithfulness to God, his family and friends.  He was a long-time member of the Nazarene Church.  He served the church many years through the bus ministry, shariing his God given gifts of music and art, many hours spent in the church kitchen, helpiing with projects and faithfully visiting the elderly.

   Even when Alzheimers' disease robbed him of his vocatulary and speech, Norman continued to visit his friends in the nursing home.  He never lost his ability to sing or play the harmonica.  His gentle spirit and sense of humor will be missed by all.

   Norman was preceded in deth by his sparents, Reuben E. Rogers and Linna Mae Gregorious; first wife, Rose M. Rogers; sisters, Neva J. Borger; Imogene Stewart; Hazel Speer, Elaine Drum and Connie Carlson; and one step-son, Kevin Jantz.

   Survivors are his wife, Marcella Jantz Rogers; daughters, Kristen (Tim) Burkhart and Beth (Matt) Smith; children, Steve and Jeanaette Jantz; Sharon and Keith Skidmore; Janene Jantz, all of Newton and several grandchildren.

   A private family burial will take place at Restlawn Gardens of Memory.  Memorial services will be January 2nd at First Church of the Nazarene, Newton.
