Pearl Marie Monroe
MISSOULA, Mont. -- Pearl Marie Monroe,
95, a 1920 Newton High School graduate, died March 27, 1998 at
Riverside Health Care Center in Missoula.
She was born April 11, 1902, in
Bucyrus, Ohio, to John and Sophia Remp. She married Carl Lester
Monroe Feb. 12, 1922. He preceded her in death.
She was raised on a farm near Newton
and attended Newton High School. She received recognitions throughout
her life for culinary and domestic arts, Pistol-D marksmanship and
"High Ten" awards as a J.C. Penney employee. She was a
Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. She did volunteer
work at the Southwestern Indian School in Glendale, Ariz., and was a
foster grandparent at Sonoma State Hospital in Calif. She was a
veteran of World War I and a member of the Presbyterian and
Evangelical United Brethren churches.
Survivors include: a daughter, Lois M.
Crispin; a son, Franklin L. Monroe; four sisters, Elsie Remp, Laura
Remp, Martha Stewart and Emma Gaiser; 12 grandchildren; and 20
great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a
son, Lester Jr.; two sisters, Jenny and Addie; and four brothers,
Ben, John, Roy, and Wesley.

Albany, Ore.
