Velma Dooley McCann
Velma Dooley McCann of Newton, died
Monday (May 18, 1998).
She was born in rural Newton to Reuben
and Myrtle (Funk) Dooley. She married G. Everett McCann on Jan. 7,
1965. He preceded her in death Feb. 26, 1976.
She was a charter member of Hillside
Christian Church in Wichita. She was an accountant, a fiscal officer
in the federal government in the Department of Defense and a
financial management officer for the Department of Health, Education
and Welfare in the Alaska Native Health Service in Anchorage, Alaska.
She lived in Anchorage from Sept. 9,
1949, to Dec. 31, 1964, when she returned to Newton. She was a member
of Soroptomist International, Anchorage Community Chorus, Anchorage
Concert Association, Federal Accountants Association and Newton's
Round Table Club.
Survivors include two sisters, Grace
Greenfield and Lola Lundy; and two step-daughters, Maurine Murphree
and Theress Bruner. She was preceded in death by three sisters, G.
Christine, Bryant Hill and Laura M. Branson; and one brother, John M.
Dooley.
Memorials have been established with
Soroptomist International and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in care of
Petersen Funeral Home.
