Rev. Orlo Choguill
Rev. Orlo Choguill, 94, 1200 E.
Seventh, Presbyterian minister, died Saturday (May 23, 1998) at
Presbyterian Manor.
He was born Jan. 14, 1904, in rural
Humboldt to Lewis Choguill and Effie (Ladd) Choguill. He married
Berneice Morgan on June 25, 1929. She survives of Newton.
He was a 1921 graduate of Humboldt High
School, 1926 graduate from College of Emporia and 1929 graduate of
McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago. He received his Doctor of
Divinity degree from the College of Emporia in 1940. In 1929 he was
ordained to the Presbyterian ministry and served churches in
Ellsworth, Emporia, Topeka, Hays and also Indianapolis.
He was a member of the Presbytery of
Northern Kansas, Lions Club, Knights Templar and the Scottish Rite.
He served on the Presbyterian National Board of Education and the
board of trustees of McCormick Theological Seminary.
Other survivors include: two daughters,
Mary Alice Halverson of Yankton, S.D., and Katy Goldsmith of
Goodwell, Okla.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He
was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Choguill.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m.
Wednesday at Presbyterian Manor with the Rev. James W. Anderson from
First United Presbyterian Church in Newton officiating. Graveside
services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Humboldt
with the Rev. Charles Carson from First United Presbyterian Church in
Chanute officiating. Friends may call until 5 p.m. today at Petersen
Funeral Home.
Memorials have been established with
the Good Samaritan Fund of the Presbyterian Manor or the Sterling
College Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home.
