Jesse R Humphrey
A retired pumper for the Santa Fe Railway, Jesse R Humphrey, 92, of 501 E. 11th, died Monday (April 16, 1984) at Bethel Deaconess Hospital in Newton.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Draper-Cannon Chapel in Newton, with the Rev. Louise McClanahan officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
He was born March 7, 1892, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of James and Mary Humphrey. On May 12, 1914 he married Zella Pearl Reed in Newton. She preceded him in death Feb. 20, 1983. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and the American Legion, both of Newton, and had lived in Newton since 1913.
Survivors include two sons, Lewis of Newton and Chester of Salem, Ore.; one daughter, Mrs. Betty Bond of Newton; one sister, Mrs. Effie Diebald of St. Paul, Minn.; one half-brother, Harry Hill of Marysville; 15 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call until 9 p,m. today, all day Wednesday and until service time Thursday at Draper-Cannon Funeral Home.
