Golliher, Stephen Reed



Obituary-Stephen Reed Golliher
Stephen Reed Golliher was born March 4, 1849 in Tennessee. He passed away in his home in Newton, KS., Nov. 19, 1926 at 6:15, aged 77 years, 8 months and 16 days. In early childhood he moved with his parents to Illinois where he remained until about 27 years old. He then moved to Homeward, Jewel county, Kans., and spent the remainder of his life in Kansas with the exception of a short time in Oklahoma. He came to Newton Oct 3, 1913.
    At Homeward, he was united in marriage to Cordelia Ann Mann, Aug. 6, 1876. To this union were born seven children one son and six daughters. Three of his children have preceded him in death. Mr. Golliher united with the Baptist church at the age of 28 years at Homeward and remained in that faith until his death.
    During the past three years he has been confined to his home a great deal of the time on account of illness, and during the last nine weeks prior to his death he was confined to his bed most of the time.
    He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Mrs. Cordelia Golliher of Newton, and four daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Sexton, Depew Okla. Mrs. Bessie Turner, Mrs. Zella Humphrey and Mrs. Alice Hand, all of Newton, also eleven grand children and one great grand child. He also leaves one brother, John H. Golliher of Quincy, Ill., and many other relatives and friends grieve over the departure of one whose devotion to his family and life of patience and kindness will long be remembered.
    Funeral services were held at the First Baptist church Monday, Nov. 22 at 2:00 p.m. in the absence of the pastor, Rev. B. F. Miller conducted the service. Interment was made in Greenwood Cemetery.
