Alice V. Nickel
Alice V. Nickel, 88, retired educator,
died Monday (June 22, 1998) at Bethesda Home in Goessel.
She was born Sept. 14, 1909, in
Mountain View, Okla., to Abraham H. and Lena (Goertz) Reimer. She
married Gerhard Nickel on May 27, 1936, in Newton. He preceded her in
death April 21, 1986.
She was a member of the Grace Hill
Mennonite Church in rural Whitewater, Aldeans Club in Newton and
Kansas National Education Association.
She taught in rural schools from 1931
to 1936 and 1945 to 1953. She also taught in Hesston Public Schools
from 1953 to 1958 and Newton USD 373 from 1958 until retiring in May
1975.
Survivors include: two sons, Jerry D.
Nickel and James E. Nickel, both of Newton; one daughter, Elizabeth
A. Miller of North Newton; two sisters, Leona Vogt of Inman and Clara
Yabrof of Hemet, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and seven
great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by one sister,
Elsie Stucky.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m.
Monday at Grace Hill Mennonite Church in rural Whitewater with Rev.
James Voth of the church officiating. Burial will be in the Grace
Hill Mennonite Church Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m.
Sunday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. Family will greet friends
from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials have been established with
the Bethesda Home and Grace Hill Mennonite Church in care of the
funeral home.
