Verna Miller Detwiler
HESSTON -- Verna Miller Detwiler, 79,
of Hesston died Friday (June 26, 1998) at Schowalter Villa in
Hesston.
Detwiler was born Oct. 12, 1918 in
Conway to Roy and Maggie Kauffman Miller. She grew up in the Windom
area and lived in Missouri from 1938 to 1957 when she moved to Iowa.
She lived in Iowa until 1960, when she moved to Hesston.
She was a homemaker.
She married Ralph Detwiler on June 19,
1938, at the West Liberty Mennonite Church near Inman. He survives of
Hesston.
She was a member of the Hesston
Mennonite Church.
Other survivors include three sons,
Sheldon of Gulfport, Miss., Glenford of Nashville and Don of Denton,
Texas; three daughters, Phyllis Yoder of Quito, Ecuador, Belle
Duerksen of Goshen, Ind., and Luann Goertzen of Hesston; two
brothers, Waldo Miller of Hesston and Wilmer Miller of Hutchinson;
one sister, Pauline Swartzendruber of Iowa City, Iowa; nine
grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at
the Hesston Mennonite Church with the Rev. Cheryl Hershberger
officiating. Burial will be at the Eastlawn Cemetery. Calling time is
3 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Miller Funeral Home in Hesston with the
family greeting friends from 6 to 9 p.m.
Memorials have been established for the
Mennonite Central Committee, the Mennonite Board of Missions and the
Gospel Missionary Union.
