Simon B. Unruh
REEDLEY, Calif. -- Simon B. Unruh, 93,
a former Halstead resident, died May 12, 1998, at Palm Village
Convalescent Hospital in Reedley, Calif.
He was born March 3, 1905, in Newton to
P.J. and Aganetha (Schmidt) Unruh. He married Martha Ensz on July 14,
1929, in Newton. She survives.
He was a member of the Tabor Mennonite
Church in Goessel. He graduated from Bethel Academy in Newton in 1926
and from the Coyne Electrical School in Chicago in 1927.
He and his wife lived in Halstead from
1930 to 1940 and worked as an electrician. In 1947 they moved to
Dodge City from Newton where he owned his own business, retiring in
the mid 1970s. He sang in the choir and was the tenor soloist at the
Dodge City Nazarene Church. He also was a member of the Kansas 500
Men's Chorus. In 1987 he and his wife moved to Reedley, Calif.
Other survivors include: one daughter,
Joanne Laemmlen of Reedley, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and 24
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Robert Dean
Unruh Sr.; one grandchild; five brothers, Abe B. Unruh, Henry B.
Unruh, Peter B. Unruh, George B. Unruh and Ted B. Unruh; and two
sisters, Margaret Schmidt and Christine Krause.
Graveside services were May 15, 1998,
at Reedley Cemetery with the Rev. Al Kroeker officiating.
