Walter Lehrman
Walter Lehrman, 79, 210 S.E. Seventh,
died today (July 10, 1998) at Newton Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 17, 1918, in Dubois,
Idaho, to Henry S. and Justina (Goossen) Lehrman. He married Leona
Mohn on Oct. 10, 1948, at First Christian Church in Marion. She
survives of Newton.
He was a member of the Newton Bible
Church and VFW Post No. 971. He delivered many types of fuel with a
transport truck for the Unruh Service Station. He lived most of his
life in Newton. He was a 1938 graduate of Newton High School.
He served in the United States Army
during World War II from July 30, 1943, to March 30, 1946, and was
injured July 8, 1944, in France. He received many medals including a
bronze star and purple heart. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and family
vacations.
Other survivors include: one son,
Robert Lehrman of Newton; one daughter, Pamela Schrag of Newton; two
grandsons, Bryan S. Lehrman and R. Michael Lehrman, both of Newton;
and one granddaughter, Wendy D. Schrag of Newton. He was preceded in
death by two sons, Clark Jay Lehrman and Mark R. Lehrman; and one
daughter, Wendy Sue Lehrman.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m.
Tuesday at Newton Bible Church with Pastors Don Myer, Dale Ribble and
Ted Veer officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m.
Sunday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Petersen Funeral Home. Family
will greet friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials have been established with
Newton Bible Church Building Fund and American Cancer Society in care
of the funeral home.
