Grace A. Sellers
HESSTON -- Grace A. Sellers, 95, died
Saturday (Sept. 26, 1998) at the Schowalter Villa in Hesston.
She was born Feb. 14, 1903, in Galt to
James A. and Grace Carol (Bain) Sellers.
She retired as associate professor of
music at Southwestern College in Winfield in 1969. She moved to
Hesston in 1978.
She was a 1920 graduate of Geneseo High
School and taught one year in a rural school and two years in the
city school system. In 1924 she moved with her mother to Winfield
where she graduated in 1927 from Southwestern College with a bachelor
of music degree. She also taught in the Fine Arts Department and
received her bachelor of arts degree with a major in music in 1939.
In 1947 she received her masters degree from Michigan State College
in East Lansing, Mich.
She was a professional accompanist and
played semi-professionally for several years in a piano-duo team. She
was organist at Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield for more
than 30 years. She served two terms as president of the Wesleyan
Service Guild, was chairman of the Memorials Committee and the Caring
Committee. After moving to Hesston she became a member of the Hesston
United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: a sister-in-law,
Alice R. Sellers of Enid, Okla.; one nephew, James F. Sellers of
Oklahoma City; and two nieces, Alyce Cornyn-Selby of Portland, Ore.,
and Joan Sellers of Price, Utah. She was preceded in death by her
parents; one brother, Lieutenant Colonel William "Bill"
Sellers; and one nephew, Capt. William B. Sellers Jr.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m.
Wednesday at the Schowalter Villa Chapel in Hesston with the Rev.
Ronald Rich and Dr. Howard Yoder officiating. Burial will be at 1:30
p.m. Wednesday in the Lyons Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8
p.m. today at Miller Funeral Home in Hesston.
Memorials have been established with
Grace Sellers Memorial Scholarship Fund at Southwestern College in
Winfield, in care of the funeral home.
