James E. Leedale
James E. Leedale, 73, 500 E. Fourth,
truck driver for Western Carrier Transport International, died Friday
(Oct. 2, 1998) at his residence in Newton.
He was born April 9, 1925, in
Springfield, Ohio, to Joe and Dorothy Wittemore (Prachel) Leedale. He
married Neva M. Einsele March 24, 1964, in Fresno, Calif. She
survives of Newton.
He was a member of Loyal Order of the
Moose in Miami, Fla., and the Fleet Reserves in Wichita.
He joined the U.S. Navy May 14, 1942,
then shortly after the SeeBees. He served in World War II, Korean
Conflict and in Vietnam. Among many stations he served were U.S.
Naval Air Station, Miramar in San Diego; U.S. Naval Station Adak in
Alaska; U.S. Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Three FPO in San
Francisco; and U.S. Naval Air Station in Lemoore, Calif. The
decorations he received were the World War II Victory,
European-African Middle Western Campaign medal, American Area,
Asiatic-Pacific, Navy Occupation medal with Asia Clasp and Navy Unit
Commendation Insign with bronze star. He also received two purple
hearts. He retired June 1, 1964.
He enjoyed gardening and doing wall
hook rugs.
Other survivors include: three sons,
Arthur L. Leedale of Oceanside, Calif., Jack E. Leedale and Craig A.
Leedale both of Newton; two daughters, Heather Goodwin of Twin Lakes,
Wis., and Barbara Bigger of Hutchinson; one brother, Joe Leedale Jr.
of Springfield, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one
brother, Kenneth O. Brown.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m.
Wednesday at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Keating
from First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the
Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call until 5 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to
9 p.m. Tuesday with family greeting friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday
at Petersen Funeral Home.
Memorials have been established with
Central Homecare and Hospice in care of the funeral home.
