Geneva D. Spangler
Geneva D. Spangler, 74, 1035 S.E.
Third, former telegrapher and business machine operator, died Sunday
(Oct. 18, 1998) at Kansas Christian Home.
She was born June 24, 1924, in Nardin,
Okla., to Alonzo M. and Mamie (Reed) Haynes. She married Frank L.
Spangler March 28, 1948, in Newton. He survives of Newton.
She was a member of the Salem United
Methodist Church, Red Bird Circle and Wi-Bands Class of the church,
Newton Lioness Club and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, all of Newton.
She attended grade school at rural
Nardin, Okla., and graduated from Deer Creek, Okla., High School. She
was a telegrapher for the Santa Fe Railroad, worked at the Newton
Finance Co., and Friendly Acres Retirement Community, all of Newton.
She was active in cub scout work and
served on the Roosevelt PTA. She enjoyed making crafts and collecting
china and glassware.
Other survivors include: two sons,
Ronald K. Spangler of Lawrence and Kendall J. Spangler of Hutchinson;
two grandsons, Bryan Spangler and Julian Spangler, both of Lawrence;
two aunts; one cousin; and a host of friends of Newton.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m.
Wednesday at Salem United Methodist Church with the Revs. Kent Rogers
and LeRoy Bott officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and
9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. Family will
greet friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials have been established with
Newton Healthcare Foundation Inc., in care of the funeral home.
