Margaret Marie Callaway

HUTCHINSON -- Margaret Marie Callaway, 100, died Friday (Oct. 16, 1998) at Thorne Care Center in Hutchinson.

She was born May 19, 1898, in Belle Plaine to John and Margaret (Mitchell) Sallee. She married A. Bertram Callaway June 19, 1921, in Newton. He preceded her in death Dec. 23, 1963.

She moved from Dodge City to Hutchinson in 1965. She was a retired teacher where she taught in Dodge City and Harvey County from 1918 to 1932. She was a former member of the First Christian Church in Dodge City and attended the 10th Avenue United Methodist Church in Hutchinson.

Survivors include: one nephew, Clifford Newlin of Paso Robles Calif.; three nieces, Leona Fast and Darlene Newlin, both of Hutchinson, and Shirley Eisley of Santa Cruz, Calif.; six great-nieces; and two great-nephews. She also was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Sallee; and two sisters, Maude Sallee and Ethel Newlin.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Wesley Towers Chapel in Hutchinson with the Rev. Robert B. Brooks officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Newton. Friends may call until 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary in Hutchinson.

Memorials have been established with Good Samaritan Fund at Wesley Towers in care of the funeral home.
