Charles E. Pankiewicz
Charles E. Pankiewicz, 72, resident
engineer for Black and Veatch, Engineers and Architects, died Tuesday
(Nov. 10, 1998) at Newton Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 13, 1926, in St.
Joseph, Mo., to Joseph and Catherine (Rynezewski) Pankiewicz. He
married Lucille Staggenborg Feb. 14, 1953, in Marysville. She
survives of Newton.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic
Church, Knights of Columbus and Kansas State Board of Technical
Engineers. He was civil engineer for Union Pacific Railroad for 19
years and city engineer of Newton for two years. He served in the
U.S. Army during World War II as a private first class. He also
worked at St. Mary's School in Newton.
Other survivors include: two sons,
David Pankiewicz of Meridian, Miss., and Alan Pankiewicz of Elk
River, Minn.; four daughters, Theresa Metz of Morrison, Colo., Carol
Barker, Cecilia Gaiser and Karen Pankiewicz, all of Newton; five
sisters, Mary Smith of San Diego, Maureen Duncan of Pleasanton,
Calif., Helen Goulet of San Jose, Calif., Jennie Harman of St.
Joseph, Mo., and Carol Jackson of Altamont, Mo.; and 11
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one
sister.
Rosary service will be at 7 p.m.
Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Newton. Funeral services
will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with Father Ken Schuckman
officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call
from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.
Memorials have been established with
St. Mary's Catholic School in care of the funeral home.
