Richard C. 'Sam' Ford

Richard C. "Sam" Ford, 89, formerly of 2633 S. Kansas, salesman with the Jewel Tea Co. for 20 years, retiring in 1967, died Sunday (Nov. 15, 1998) at Friendly Acres Retirement Community.

He was born June 10, 1909, in Nimmon, Ark., to C.C. and Mary Ella (Hill) Ford. He married Alice Williams Aug. 1, 1945, in Newton. She survives of Newton.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Newton.

Other survivors include: two sons, James R. Ford of Wichita and John C. Ford of Newton; two daughters, Phyllis Gerstberger of Tulorose, N.M., and Jodi Ford of East Dennis, Mass.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, one sister and one granddaughter.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Alden Dick from First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call until 9 p.m. today at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.

Memorials have been established with Central Homecare and Hospice in care of the funeral home.
