John H. Moore
John H. Moore, 81, 1014 S. Pine,
retired co-owner and operator of Moore's IGA located at Cedar Village
in Newton from 1954 to 1982, died Monday (Nov. 30, 1998) at Axtell
Clinic.
He was born Dec. 20, 1916, in Yukon,
Okla., to Eugene U. and Anna A. (Thiems) Moore. He married Margaret
LaClair Dec. 30, 1936, in Manhattan. She survives.
He was a member of Our Lady of
Guadalupe Catholic Church, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, American
Legion and Alcoholics Anonymous. He served in the U.S. Army during
World War II. He was a private first class.
Other survivors include: three sons,
Jerry Moore of Wichita and John Moore and Greg Moore, both of Newton;
three daughters, Marietta Linke of Spokane, Wash., Sheryl Geis of
Arlington, Texas, and Pam Navrat of Newton; 22 grandchildren; 37
great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; four
step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and one
step-great-great-grandchild.
Rosary service will be at 7 p.m.
Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Funeral services
will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church with Father John V. Hotze
officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Thursday at Petersen Funeral Home.
