Esther V. Armstrong

Esther V. Armstrong, 76, 1035 S.E. Third, former employee at 1-Hour Martinizing Cleaners in Newton, died Friday (Dec. 25, 1998) at Newton Medical Center.

She was born Feb. 24, 1922, in Newton to Chester I. and Mary Martha M. (May) Brainard. She married Frank K. Armstrong Aug. 13, 1936. He preceded her in death July 15, 1976.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Rachel circle of the church. She worked at the New Process Laundry before 1-Hour Martinizing Cleaners.

Survivors include: one son, Kenneth R. (Dick) Armstrong of Junction City; two daughters, Mary A. Watts of Newton and Joan Ewy of Hutchinson; two brothers, Kenneth E. Brainard of Newton and Chester Brainard of Santa Rosa, Calif.; three sisters, Judith Oswald of Newton, Alma Shipley of Topeka and Charlotte Stevens of Louisville, Ken.; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home Chapel in Newton with Chaplains Carolyn Schwartz and Evelyn Dodge of Kansas Christian Home presiding. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. until funeral time Monday at Broadway Colonial.

Memorials have been established with Fellowship of John of the Kansas Christian Home in care of the funeral home.
