Franklin Ward Loyles
Franklin Ward Loyles, 83, 307 W. First, died Saturday (Jan. 16,
1999) at Friendly Acres Retirement Community.

Loyles was born Dec. 15, 1915, in
Cawker City to Franklin W. and Emelie Anna (Paetke) Loyles. He
married Anna Laura Phillips Hickerson Oct. 2, 1939, in Wichita.
She died Dec. 29, 1971.
He grew up near Florence and
attended Florence schools. His hobbies and pastimes included
fishing, being in the outdoors, reading the Bible and Louis
L'Amour books and listening to music, especially classical. He
worked for the Municipal Transit System in Wichita as a bus
driver, for Boeing Aircraft Co. and was a concrete contractor and
house builder in Wichita. He last worked for Future Foam Co. in
Newton, where he mixed chemicals for foam. He was retired at the
time of his death. Survivors inlcude: one son, Franklin Dean
Loyles of Wichita; one daughter, Lea Odle of Newton; one sister
Imogene Laura Snell of Augusta; two nieces for whom he served as
guardian, Carolyn Powell of Douglass and Georgene Rush of Wichita;
six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one
great-great-grandchild; two step-great-grandchildren; and one
step-great-great-grandchild. He also was preceded in death by one
son, James "Eugene" Loyles; one daughter, Jean Ellis;
and two brothers, Carl Loyles and Rudolph Otis Loyles. Funeral
services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Broadway Colonial Funeral
Home Chapel, 120 E. Broadway in Newton, with Maj. James
Porterfield of the Salvation Army officiating. Interment will be
at Hillcrest Cemetery in Florence. Friends may call until 9 p.m.
today and until service time Saturday at the funeral home. The
family suggests memorial donations be made to the American
Diabetes Association in care of the funeral home.
