Clifford H. 'Swede' Cornelsen

Clifford H. "Swede" Cornelsen, 79, 725 Ash St., died Friday (Jan. 22, 1999) at his home in Newton.

He was born Oct. 31, 1919, in Fairview, Okla., to Henry C. and Justine (Martens) Cornelsen. He married Ruby Schmidt in February 194, in Walton. She preceded him in death Oct. 15, 1955. He married Frieda Bergen Dec. 11, 1957, in Newton. She also preceded him in death April 19, 1992. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Engineers. He was a sergeant of the military police during World War II in the Army, where he served in what presently is know as Iran. He enjoyed talking on CB's and visiting with coffee friends. Survivors include: one son, Kenneth Cornelsen of Wichita; two daughters, Janice Marie Froese of Dallas and Barbara Joyce Leckington of Idaho; one sister, Leona McComb of Wichita; eight grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by his parents. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Cemetery with Pastor Steve Friesen of Grace Community Church in Newton officiating. Friends may call until 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Petersen Funeral Home.
