Johnnie Clarence Curtiss

Johnnie Clarence Curtiss, 79, 501 Sunnyside Ct., retired Santa Fe Railroad employee after 34 years, where he was blacksmith and welder, died Tuesday (Jan. 26, 1999) at Newton Medical Center. 

He was born Jan. 28, 1919, in Keats to Clarence E. and Rosy Ellen (Kalb) Curtiss. He married Edna I. Schmidt Jan. 28, 1946, in Wellington. She survives of the home. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, VFW post No. 971, Newton Masonic Lodge, Wichita Consistory, American Legion Post No. 2 and National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Other survivors include: one son, Douglas F. Curtiss of Newton; one daughter, Becky J. Curtiss Heaston of Thornton, Colo.; one sister, Clara Smith of Newton; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Mary Baker and Frances Johnston. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Keating from First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
