Sarah Oplinger
Sarah Oplinger, 96, of Friendly Acres
Retirement Community, died Monday (Jan. 25, 1999) at the retirement
community. She was born June 12, 1902, near Jamestown to Charles H.
and Margaret Spicer Trussell. She married Ray W. Oplinger Sept. 24,
1939. He preceded her in death July 3, 1988. She was a graduate of
Emporia State Teacher's College, teaching several years in Jewell and
Cloud counties. She also farmed with her husband and assisted her
husband in his work as a park superintendent. She and her husband had
lived at Friendly Acres in 1967. She was a member of Salem United
Methodist Church in Newton. Survivors include a sister, Eva Thompson
of St. Petersburg, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; and other
relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband,
five brothers, Harry, Raymond, Ralph, Willis and a brother who died
in infancy. Services were earlier this week at the Salem United
Methodist Church in Jewell. Burial was in Jewell Cemetery. Memorials
were to the Salem United Methodist Churches in Jewell or Newton, and
the Friendly Acres Retirement Community.
