She was born March 30, 1924, in
Manhattan to Marshall J. and Emma (Seeberg) Selby. She attended
schools in Manhattan and was a graduate of Kansas State
University, where she belonged to Mortar Board and was national
president of Kappa Beta. She later received her masters degree
from Iowa State University. She taught secondary school in Kansas
and Iowa, and taught college at Central Washington College in
Ellensberg, Wash., and University of Nebraska in Omaha, Neb., as a
home economics education teacher. She served as counselor in a
women's dormitory at Purdue University in Lafayette, Ind., for
several years. For a while, she was a private tutor, teaching
English to engineers, architects, draftsmen and others from Saudi
Arabia for the Leo A. Daly Co. She was employed part time and
later full-time at Metropolitan Community College in Omaha, Neb.
She retired in March 1991, and moved to Kansas Christian Home in
September 1992. She was a member of First Christian Church in
Omaha, where she served as an elder and was a active member in
many activities of the church. She also was a member of American
Association of University Women and Kansas State Alumni
Association. Survivors include one sister, Elsie Volz of
Greensburg, five nephews; and one niece. Graveside services will
be at 11 a.m. Monday at Patio Garden in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in
Emporia with Pastor Steven Goad from First Christian Church in
Emporia officiating. Memorials have been established with Kansas
Christian Home in Newton or Kansas State University Alumni
Association in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Box 175,
Emporia, KS 66801.
