John Raymond Bannon, 78, of Emporia, died March 4, 2014 at the Flint Hills Care Center in Emporia. He was born March 28, 1935 in Newton the son of Raymond Carroll and Betty Brodt Bannon.
He graduated from Newton High School in 1953. John received his Bachelor's degree from Wichita State University and his Master's degree from the University of Southern California. He was a personnel manager having worked for Michelin Tires in Clermont Ferrand, France, Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas; Columbia Records in Santa Maria, California and retiring from Didde Web Press in Emporia on April 1, 1999. He was a member of the St. Andrew' Episcopal Church in Emporia and an Avid University of Kansas Basketball fan.
He married Shirley Ann Friesen oon January 22, 1955 in Newton. She died May 27, 2011 in Emporia.
Survivors: son, Jeff Bannon of Emporia; daughters; Deanna Defoor and husband Jim of Manhattan and Lisa Broekelman and husband, Eldon of Surprise, Arizona; 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, an infant daughter, Jill Bannon and brother, Jim Bannon.
Services were held March 10 at At. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Emporia. burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
