Vivian A. Cottingham
Vivian A. Cottingham, 85, 200 S.W.
14th, died Tuesday (March 2, 1999) at Friendly Acres Retirement
Community.
She was born June 19, 1913, in Haswell,
Colo., to Clarence W. and Edna (Moore) Steeves. She married John R.
Cottingham Oct. 25, 1935, in McPherson. He preceded her in death Oct.
10, 1993.
She was a member of First United Church
of Christ, League of Women Voters and was a charter member of the
20th Century Club.
She came to Newton in 1948 from
McPherson. She graduated from Bethel College in 1957 with a bachelor
of elementary education and then from Emporia State Teachers College
with a masters in education. She taught for 23 years in Newton at
Washington, South Breeze and then retiring while teaching at Lincoln.
She was former Newton Kansan Woman of Year.
Survivors include: two sons, Kent
Cottingham of Clinton, N.J., and Kirk Cottingham of Hutchinson; two
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in
death by one sister, Virginia Lee Steeves.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m.
Saturday at First United Church of Christ with Pastor Christian A.
Tirre officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at
Petersen Funeral Home.

First United Church of Christ in care of the funeral home.
