Johnston, Alvin Lafayette

The Newton Kansan

   Alvin Lafayette Johnston, 89, passed away December 4, 2013 at hhis home iin Hesston.  He was born September 14, 1924, son of Uriah and Florence Zimmerman Johonston. 

   On February 11, 1951 he married Virginia Ruth Knott.   She passed away August 22, 1959.  On

April 27, 1962 he married Pearl Froese.  She passed away November 17, 2009.

  Alvin was preceded in death by 3 sisters; Ardith Chupp, Anna Boehme and Luetta Scwartzendruber
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Germany.  He worked at the Hesston Coprp. for more than 10 years and lived and farmed land north of Hesston.  For many years, Emma Township residents heard Alvin coming down the road with his road grader.

   He was known as a loving husband, father, grandfather and grreat-grandfather.

   Survivors: 3 brothers, Orvis, Dean, both of Leonard, Missouri and Ronnie of Mexico, Missouri; 3 sisters, Ester Zehr, Roseburg, Oregon; Dorothy Campagna of Apison, Tenn.; Donna Smoker of Phoenix;children; Steve (Sophis) of Okmulgee, Oklahoma; Kathy Sears of Newton; Tom Johnston (Saney) of LaVeta, Colorado; Roger  (Vicki) Johnston of Denton, Texas; Richard (Lynette) of Newton; Karen (Mark) Gerry, Grapevine, Texas; Lisa (Scott) Milburn, Arlington, Texas and Jan Jan (Pete) Stucky, Newton, 228 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren./

   Graveside service wasa held December 9, 20113 at Hesston Cemeetery with Military Rites conducted by Ft. Riley Honor Guard.
