Karl G. Kliewer
Karl G. Kliewer, 94, died Sunday (March
14, 1999) at Newton Presbyterian Manor.
He was born March 7, 1905, in Berne,
Ind., to Dr. Jacob W. and Emma Ruth Kliewer. He married Clara Taves
June 10, 1933, in Moundridge. She preceded him in death in 1981.
He and his family moved to Newton in
1911, where his father became president of Bethel College and served
as pastor of the Bethel College Mennonite Church.
He was a 1929 graduate of Bethel
College with a degree in business. While at Bethel he was a
triathlete where he lettered in football, basketball and track. He
worked on several college publications and was a member of the Men's
Chorus.
He taught in Whitewater for several
years and later served as director of Legislative Post-Audit for the
tate of Kansas for many years until his retirement. He was a member
of Central Congregational Church in Topeka, where he sang in the
choir. In 1983 he transfered his membership to the Bethel College
Mennonite Church in Newton.
Survivors include: one daughter, Susan
Gallagher of Crownsville, Md.; one son, Richard Kliewer of Castle
Rock, Colo.; and two grandsons.
Cremation and interment will be in
Topeka. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bethel
College Mennonite Church with Revs. Steve Yoder and Charles Kaufmann
officiating.
