Gladys E. Hampton
Gladys E. Hampton, 96, 507 Old Main,
homemaker, died Monday (March 15, 1999) at Newton Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 6, 1902, in Marion
County to David Albert and Annetta Ellen (Freeman) Manahan. She
married Floyd Hampton Sept. 4, 1926, in Newton. He preceded her in
death Oct. 9, 1984.
She was a member of Salem United
Methodist Church in Newton. She was a former telephone operator in
Newton.
She enjoyed growing flowers and
vegetable gardening. She canned many of her vegetables. She also
enjoyed celebrating Memorial Day by sharing flowers with her family
and decorating in the cemetery.
Survivors include: two sons, "Shot"
Hampton and J.D. Hampton, both of Newton; two daughters, Nettie Lou
Patton and Joyce Guinty, both of Arkansas City; 10 grandchildren; and
21 great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by three
brothers, Harry Manahan, Lawrence Manahan and Victor Manahan; and
four sisters, Nora Logan, Ida Russell, Valerie Fester and Becky Honn.
Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m.
Wednesday at Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Peabody with the Rev. Kent
Rogers of Salem United Methodist Church in Newton officiating.
Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. today
and 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Broadway Colonial Funeral.

Prairie Lawn Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
