Day, Jack A.

The Newton Kansan

Jack A. Hay, 90, died Monday, February 17, 20114 at Presbyterian Manor in Newton.

He was born August 7, 1923 in Newton, the son of Carl and Ethel Kendall Hay.  On November 9, 19147 he married Frances A. Linscheid in Newton.  She survives. Jack was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church.  He was a member of the Newton Lions Club, the American Legion Post #2 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #971, all of Newton.  He attended Wentworth Junior College and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served iin the 757-tank division battalion of the 5th Army in North Africa and Italy from 1943 to 1945.

Jack owned and operated "Jack's Service". a Phillips 66 station on the corner of Main and 12th Street for 27 years.  He sold his business iin 1973 and in 1974 he was elected to the office of Register of Deeds of Harvey County.  He was a member and past president of the State Register of Deeds Association.  In 2006, he published a book titled "Italian Campaigns'.  Copies are in the local liibrary, Newton Historical Society and Chisholm and Santa Fe School Libraries in Newton.

Survivors: wife, Frances; two sons, David (Jolyn) of Lenexa; Clark C. Hay, Dallas, Texas; one daughter, Becky (Brad) of Newton;; sisters in-law, Vivian Hay of Wellington and Charlotte Hay of San Jose, California; 3 grandchildren.  He was precedeed in death by a dauhter Jacqueline Ethel Hay and his two brothers, Kendall C. Hay and Keith G. Hay and his parents.

A memorial service at First Prresbyterian Church will be Saturday February 22, 2014.  Burial will be held prior to the service.
