Henry M. McKellip
Henry M. McKellip, 79, retired auto
body mechanic for 42 years, died today (April 2, 1999) at Kidron
Bethel Village in North Newton.
He was born Dec. 28, 1919, in a sod
house in Edwards County to Lawrence C. and Forest (Sater) McKellip.
He married Grace C. Larson May 31, 1947, in Wichita. She survives of
Newton.
He was a member of VFW Fred E. Ellis
Post No. 2715 in McPherson. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during
World War II from June 1940 until December 1945, and achieved the
rank of Tech Sergeant of the Combat Infantry Parachutist 17th
Airborne Division. He made one combat jump into Germany. He was
awarded Combat Infantryman's Badge and Combat Parachutist Wings.
He worked for his grandfather on the
farm when he was growing up. He enjoyed fishing, camping and bowling
and also was a member of a variety of bowling leagues.
Other survivors include: two sons,
Chris M. McKellip and Olin L. McKellip, both of Newton; two sisters,
Evelyn Hylen of Houston, and Norma Deal of Atlanta; and four
grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m.
Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Newton with the Rev. Ronald Gloe
officiating. Military graveside services will be in the Greenwood
Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m.
Sunday and Monday with family greeting friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Monday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.
Memorials have been established with
Zion Lutheran Church Building Fund or VFW Childrens Home in care of
the funeral home.
